Fatal Motive Evaluation
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Young Males
The Antihero represents young males as flawed and easy to manipulate. The way he finds comfort in the femme fatale's embrace shows that she has manipulated him. This is enforces when he says "Yes, it's done" as it shows that she has made him do something for her. He is also wearing a suit, which implies status but his tie is loosely done up, showing he is incompetant and is rather unaware of how to dress. This means that we see his naivity and exposed vulnerability, further enforcing how easily he is
manipulated. The fact that he is
flawed means that the audience
may relate to him. The aim of the
antihero is to have the character be
more relatable and this means the
audience believe the character
more. This table show the typical
conventions of an antihero with his
representation.
Character: Antihero
Young Females
Character: Femme Fatale
The Femme Fatale represents young women as sexually confident and manipulative. She wears a short dress and red lipstick so we assume that she is confident in what she wears and this gives her a subsequent level of power. She also seems to be genuinely concerned for the man she has manipulated which suggests that she is a victim of her own game.
Middle Aged Males
Character: Detective
The Detective reperesents middle aged males as sturdy and level headed. He is is a position of power (as shown by the way he dresses and his office). The office suggests he is an authority figure amongst law enforcement and his hat and clothes imply the wealth of such a position. When he hears about the murder, he doesn't show any emotion, proving that he is emotionally separated from his job as one must be to cope with such atrocities. Smoking once again shows wealth and power but also that he has his flaws.
