How did you attract/address your audience?

We showed the film for the first time to our media group. This shows we recieve mainly positive feedback. I was really pleased with their reactions and I thiink this shows that this was the target audience were sufficiently pleased and would want to watch the film. We recieved some feedback about the titles which we agreed with and changed as soon as we could. There were some points raised in the video that whilst we agreed with, we didn't believe that the changes proposed were necessary. Aside from those, we were surprised with the extremely positive feedback which shows that we were on par with what the target audience (or at least the target age's demographic.

Initial Feedback

Further Feedback

The second group was a year 12 art class (between 16-17 years old) and this group went under pretty much the exact same condition as the first although the internet was much better. This meant we got significantly less comments on jolts and more on improvements. Again, everyone wanted to see the final product and they were again intrigued. This group were saying that they wanted a more prominant flashback sequence (one person suggested fading the footage slightly) and we can understand that this can increase the audiences understanding slightly but we felt the change was unnecessary to go backk and re-edit the footage to make it clearer. Another said the musical transition could be more sublte which I believe could have been the case but I like the sudden stop to a climax. Some were asking for more of the film as an improvement as they really wanted more whilst some asked for it to make it slightly easier to understand. So all in all, this feedback came back a lot more constructive and built upon the criticisms gained from the media group both on and off camera and in total, showed us that we had been successful in catering to the audience.

This was my year 13 form group (between the ages of 17-18 years old) that we gave questionnaires to, and showed the film to them via the projector in the centre off the classroom. There were issues with the exhibition as the speakers were quieter than I had hoped and the video jolted and buffered. The group gave mainly positive feedback and they all said they wanted to see the full thing and were intrigued by the sequence. One person said that they loved films set from the 50s and in black and white (which is why they said that the film didn't accurately portray a 50s style, as they were far more educated about the mise-en-scene than we were). The things to improve section were filled with comments about the jolting or commenting about audio clarity. There were no other comments about improving the film apart from issues relating to those difficulties, further enforcing that we have met the need of our potential audience. This shows that if anything, large screenings are not the best way to exhibit our film (as discussed in Q3).
