With the continuity task I was in a group of five, we got together a few days before the filming to decide on narrative. Max did some rough storyboarding as a way of taking notes on ideas.  I then scripted and storyboarded the production a day before the filming as I thought we were going to do it sometime before. This was an example of why I didn't end up working with the majority of people in that group, we had several opportunities to further plan but I was the one who ended up doing most of the pre production tasks. This is something I really didn't want to occur with my final production so I made every attempt to plan ahead. This didn't always go to plan (as actors weren't always available) but we had a complete script, storyboard and animatic before anyone else and we always had goals for days as well as progress to report so we were really efficient in terms of planning. We did however film the final production a bit late due to actors backing out but were always sure that nothing else had to be done before we filmed. For example, I composed all the music before the film was filmed so I could fit it to the film after we filmed. We also had exactly what we wanted to film, scene for scene, planned out before we filmed on the day. The actors knew exactly what we wanted to film as I had sent them the script and this made things a lot more fluid than the preliminary task.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I had yet to use the latest iMovie when I began editing the preliminary task. This means that it was essential that I learnt using the task as a way of experimenting with the software and learning how to use it properly. I had no idea to do simple editing techniques such as cutting clips or changing audio volumes. This means that without the preliminary task, the editing process would have taken a lot longer. This is why the editing was rather weak in areas. It was here I figured out how complex the sound editing interface was compared to what I was used to. So I made the decision to outsource this to the software I was used to once me and max were happy with the video editing side of the cut. The example the preliminary task set meant we focused on the amount of time each shot lasted more than we would have usually.
